Spring breezes
8. May 2012 by admin.
The cool breezes blow across the sun baked grass today as I sit in the yard sketching. There are so many inspirations in the little things even in the back yard. If I sit still long enough, I begin to notice. A blue bird puffs his feathers after landing on a branch above me. The hint of crimson under his wings brings a smile to my face. The female swoops in to join her mate. They spot lunch in the grass. The blades of grass reach toward the sun after a frosty night. I too stretch and plan a few more spring pieces. The art student league art market is around the corner on June 8,9. I want a fresh body of work for this show that kicks off summer. I look forward to seeing you there and sharing my inspirations with you.

Happy New Year
8. January 2012 by admin.
At the start of a new year, I always make goals for things I want to accomplish throughout the year. This year, my list is big. I thought I would share a few of them with you and encourage you to make your own list. Things seem easier to accomplish when they are written down. First on my list, as usual is my physical goal. This year, I put P90x on my list. I plan to start this vigorous workout today! Then, my list is family category. I want to continue to help my kid work on their musical abilities through lessons, writing, and concerts. I also want to travel with the kids - I have to figure out where? My career is one of my favorite categories. I would like to add two additional galleries this year due to losing a couple that closed in the last few years. I will get to santa fe and check out the art scene and enjoy the culture. I would like to add new work , including more paintings. I want to keep the studio clean (good one!), enter three outdoor festivals and have two solo shows. I also want to travel with karl - two trips! Happy New Year

New Harmony
21. November 2011 by admin.
I just returned from a quick trip to New Harmony, Indiana. My college ceramics professor had a retirement show and dinner, and I was invited to display a piece of art as well as attend the dinner. I love New Harmony. It is a small town in southern Indiana filled with creative minds and cool gallery spaces. The white walls and dark wood floors create an inviting atmosphere for the view to take in the art. The reception was such fun seeing my professors from years past and connecting with new people. I was excited to be a part of the show and event. Great Job, Lenny (ceramic professor) for all you have accomplished and all you have given to your students!

chores
3. August 2011 by admin.
My house and studio is a mess and with the kids home all summer, it never seems to stay clean. So, this morning I handed out chore lists for the kids. It covered a sheet a paper, and after a few cries they are off. We will see how much we can get done by noon. My studio floor should be washed (that is on my list), so that I can walk through it without tracking clay everywhere. I better get back to unloading the kiln, number 2 on the list!

july 18

I picked a very hot day to fire the kiln! The garage is quite toasty and it is not making conditions favorable to rolling out clay. I am working on a commission for arejae art consulting in south carolina and need one more columbine flower tile. I surely can manage the heat to roll out one tile. Then, I will have to reward myself with a homemade ice cream sandwich…yum.

july 10
10. July 2011 by admin.
I am trying to fire my kiln today before the thunderstorms start again. Each afternoon this week, storms have been building, with a beautiful light show and rain by late afternoon. I have been enjoying the rain, as we rarely are treated to so much. I am excited too because I am seeing signs of more wildflowers popping their green buds from the earth. I just started a sunflower piece this morning. It is a three piece that fits together in different places- somewhat abstract for me. I worked in the garage this morning because it was so beautiful, I wanted to be as close to working outside as I could. I placed the finish piece on the floor and went to get more clay. In the short amount of time, a little chipmunk had found the clay and ran across it. Although I am not fond of the little chipmunks, the tiny little footprints are so sweet, i may just leave them in the clay.

Fourth of july
3. July 2011 by admin.
My visions of wildflowers knee high by the fourth of july has somewhat diminished. My bed I planted back in April has a few scattered flowers that are about 4″ high at most. I decided to buy full grown flowers and just plant them due to my depression of lack of growth in the flowerbed. SO, I spent my birthday planting and mulching the area. It was beautiful and I was satisfied. The next morning when I came downstairs, I looked outside and found a huge herd of elk standing among my flowers. One had the nerve to look at me with one of my plants, pulled completely out of the ground, stuck in his mouth. I opened the door and screamed, running straight at them full force. They moved away a bit, but the damage had been done. My plants were eaten, pulled up or stomped on. Next year, I will go the botanical gardens for my flower fix.

I am packing up art this morning for my weekend show at the Pavilions near the 16th street mall. I have not been in this show before so I am excited to see new faces. Looks like a great weekend ahead with sunny skies and warm temps. The show starts off Friday evening from 4-8, then Sat, Sun and Monday. Check out my new rusty birdhouses and wall pieces, or my contemporary all white pieces which would be great on a dark wall.

Back in the studio
20. May 2011 by admin.
Well, I have not written since my vacation to the beach. I left 80 degree weather and came back to snow that has just not stopped! But, my first show of the summer season is Memorial Day weekend at the Pavilions in Downtown Denver, and I am hopeful there will be no snow. I have not stopped creating in the studio and today I am epoxying all backings -the worse job:( . I hope to have things packed up by mid week. The kiln is firing again today with rustic bird houses and wall sculptures. Everything is a little bit wet, so I am firing slow and hoping I don’t blow anything up. Come see me in Booth 52.

beach!
26. April 2011 by admin.
I am busy in the studio getting pieces rolled out to dry while I take a little mini vacation to the beach. I am heading to St. Simon’s Island in South Carolina for a week with my sisters. We are excited for all six of us to be together along with mom, to just enjoy the week. We have a big house right on the beach with ocean views from the sofa. I plan to get some inspiration for new pieces and enjoy the warm sun. It has been snowing on and off since Easter, and quite chilly. The island is calling!
